Happy Halloween! It's the maiden voyage to the cabin/cottage. It's a little bit cabin, and a little bit cottage so this weekend we've been calling it the cab-ottage. Our new adventure began Friday night when Gwen and Sue arrived. Greg and Kelly came on Saturday with the suburban loaded up.

The Leaves: With no lawn cleaning previously done, we raked leaves, and raked some more, and then kept on raking. All while the light rain and drizzle kept coming. The leaves literally got heavier as the day went on. Thank goodness the temps were still 55+ degrees. We kicked butt and the yard is clean. Hopefully the weather will be dryer next weekend to get in a final mow for the year.
Greg sprayed off the roof as best he could, and cleaned out the gutters. Yuck! But he did a great job despite teetering on a 8 ft. painting ladder. I'll be getting a nicer ladder in hopes that Greg will still help me with future projects ;)

The
Gifts: Mr. Coffee and a pretty full propane tank! We took a look at the gauge on the tank, and it's sitting nicely at 70%. Thank you previous owners!

The Rest: Everything works, with a little help from Greg. Greg lit the wood stove. It works! Boy, does it work! Nice, dry heat.Greg had to keep the windows open all night long just to get the inside temp back into the 70s. I'm thinking that we will really love the wood stove in January.
We got a great start this weekend and tested all the things we could. Great water pressure in the shower. Even the TV works and we fell asleep to the World Series. Earlier in the evening we went into Hersey for a beverage run and stopped at the local  grocery. The owner was thrilled to show us around this country one-stop shop and gave us a taste of small town living. But we took our road trip a bit further and picked up some cold ones at the party store in Reed City.
Gwen assembled the butler (utility cart) and it works perfectly by the slider. Gwen also tackled the frig. Greg fought with the old microwave until he just cut the cord to get it out. Gwen donated a little bit bigger and newer microwave, which looks and works awesome. We also rearranged the end tables and lamps to cozy up the living room a bit.

The Reward: On Sunday, November 1st, the rain had moved out and we got to experience a beautiful and relaxing day. We first grabbed a cup of coffee and all took a walk down the driveway, scoping out the various features of the forest and fields. Greg built a fire and collected several wheelbarrows of scrub wood to keep is burning for hours. We ate breakfast by the fire, and happy hours snacks, too. It was the perfect way to close out a busy and super exciting weekend!
